Experiencing the 10th Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk

07 October 2017

if i am not mistaken, this should have been my third time to join. the other year, even though that i registered to join, i still did not made it to the walk. last year, i guess i still did the registration but since i need to be with my wife, i did not made it again. at last! i made it! finally! and heres my story and experience.

Heritage of Misamis Oriental Monument, Capitol Grounds

after some pleasantries and mini program at the provincial capitol, we proceeded with our walk at around 8am. we have four destinations: Gaston park; Cogon Market; Divine Mercy Shrine in El Salvador City; and Apple Tree Resort and Hotel in Opol Town, all are in the province of Misamis Oriental.

we walk along A.Velez street and some turns, we took some shots along the way until we came to Gaston Park and Metropolitan Cathedral.

Background: Water Tower Museum
Foreground: Gaston Park

after some few shots and snacks, we then proceeded to the Cogon Market; one of Cagayan de Oro's major marketplace.

Market Porter
The cogon market shoot is my favorite. all the action and the stories are there. i think i need to learn more about environmental portraits. we took a lot of street photos virtually in every street we walk on to.

From Cogon Market, we went to Centrio Ayala mall for a lunch break. of course, another set of getting along and getting to know each other. after lunch, we went to the Divine Mercy Shrine. a hitch a ride from a fellow participant.

After some formalities, we finally made it all come inside the sacred grounds of the Divine Mercy Shrine. the heat is searing and exhausting but managed to get some shots.

Divine Mercy Shrine, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental

from here we went to Apple Tree Resort and Hotel for some lectures from the experts. after which, the photoshoot ive been waiting for. the photoshoot of Cagayan de Oro Talent Center.

CDOTC Models
this photoshoot is very challenging to me. first of, im still new to DSLR shooting, for i used point-and-shoot, smartphones and tablet for the past years. even though im new, i literally pushed it by shooting with 50mm, speedlight and manual mode. my first few shots are all under/overexposed so i need to change settings in just a few seconds so that i could take shots to all models. imagine the pressure and the frustrations. after all the bad shots, what a joy, what a relief to see my results in the camera. making me go home happy and contented.

to see more of my photos taken in this photowalk, pls visit my facebookpage @eatsgoodtobeincdo

my big thanks to sir Scott Kelby for making this walk a worldwide hit. to our walk leader sir Clement Dampal II, and to all of my co participants, my big gratitude to you all.

A Nai.a.holic Experience

29 September 2017
Nail.A.Holics Nail Salon and Spa
3/f Centrio Ayala Mall

Nail.a.Holic, a premier nail salon and spa in the country, have two branches here in Cagayan de Oro: one in Centrio Ayala Mall and; one in SM CDO Downtown Premier, will have a National Pampering day this 17th of October. Ticket holders will have a free service of choice. If i am not mistaken only 10 lucky ticket holders per branch will have a one pampering treatment and a way to donate to their chosen charity. But before that said event, i was so privileged to get some treatments too.

Nail.A.Holics is not new to me, in fact, my wife had availed some services too in their Centrio Ayala Branch. She was deeply satisfied to the excellent service done by the expert nail technicians. During those times, she gets the pampering and i got the cardio workout by walking inside the mall to & fro and up & down. But this time around, I'm the one who gets the pampering. For my first dibs, i availed two services: (1) Lush Lagoon and (2) Crystal Sand.

Lush Lagoon is a packaged service that composed of: Manicure + Pedicure + Foot Spa with Foot Massage. To balance both hands and feet pampering, I also got Crystal Sand Service, on which the therapist will do a 30 minute hand massage and reflexology. To my surprise, i thought "hands" means palm and fingers, she massaged my whole arm! good! i said to myself. my arm is so tired and pained from the coverage of the City Fiesta Parade. I've been in pain for almost a month so imagine the relief that gave me.

I'll definitely going back and avail more massage services, i heard that their back massage named "Pebble Beach" is also a great! to get a list of services they offer and to know more about nail.a.holics, visit their website at http://nailaholics.com, or search them in social media accounts: Facebook Page Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa, Twitter @_nailaholics and Instagram @_nailaholics.

15 September 2017

The main reason of our road trip, to go and see Abaga Falls. Located in a remote area of brgy. st. francis in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental. after an hour or so of up hill jeep ride, a hike on a steep ravine, we all finally made it. no injuries just sweats of cardio work out. let these speak for it self. yah! i haven't mastered or known how to capture falls. probably next time on a next visit or other falls of el salvador, i can surely take better photos than this.

Bolisong Women Winemakers Incorporated

15 September 2017

A group of women in Barangay Bolisong in the City of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental is masterfully crafting wines from (the fruit of)  Duhat (Java Plum; Syzygium Jambolanum) and Cashew (Anacardium Occidentale) . Their group is now being called Bolisong Women Winemakers Incorporated.

Their determination to produce export quality wines pushed them to become ingenious to use all skills and tools they have. They created many jobs by tapping more farmers, fruit growers and suppliers.

"El Salvadore" Wines are now being sold to the city's pasalubong center. In some instances, they exhibit their product in different expo locally and in national scene anticipating to be recognized internationally.

My salute to the women of Bolisong for crafting this great tasting wine. Let us show some love and support by buying their wine at the City's pasalubong center at the heart of the city.

Our First Dibs at Roadhouse Cafe

13 September 2017
Roadhouse Cafe
3/f Centrio Mall

in my years of stay here in Cagayan de Oro, there are times that i heard some good comments that offers the best food not only here in CdeO but also in Bukidnon (sorry, I forgot which part of Bukidnon they are refering to). These comments gets louder if i pass by their branch in SM City CDO (aka SM Uptown). Sadly, me and my wife did not had the chance to try it but she keeps on saying that their food is great since she knew some of the admins. Fast forward, when my sisters asked me where will we celebrate our mom's birthday, i remembered Roadhouse Cafe thus we celebrated it there. We chose the Centrio branch because its the nearest branch for all of us: my family and in-laws.

We only had a simple celebration full of chit chats and sharing while enjoying the food:

Tinolang Isda (Lapu-lapu) for soup and appetizer

Seafood in a Basket. A basket made with fried noodles filled with yummy veggies and seafood: shrimp, fish and squid.

Me and my Family's favorite: Kare-Kare, they used ox tail and skin.

The star of our feast, Crispy Pata.

To our surprise, they gave our celebrant a slice of Sapin-Sapin with candle for well wishes.

Thank you so much Roadhouse Cafe staff and crew for making our celebration a memorable one. Everybody enjoyed the food you prepared. my high regards to chef Albert and to ms. MM...

With this, i heard that they are opening up something great in Valencia, Bukidnon. as for me and this blog, ill support lokal...cant wait to blog about it...

Burias Shoal of El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental

15 Sep 2017

PRELUDE: I am so thankful that I made the cut to be part of the City Tourism Office of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental's Media Tour Day. We visited about four tourism sites that the city are proud of. I'll share to you each site in different parts so that I won't flood a single article. Our next stop, Burias Shoal.

After some yummy treat of fresh milk, we went on to our next destination. after some road trip and 2 boat rides - the smaller boat lead to a bigger boat because the bigger boat can't make to shore - we reached Burias Shoal.

Burias Shoal is a sandbar that surfaces only during low tide. The city government made that shoal a marine protected area making a part of it a sanctuary to migratory green sea turtles, corals, giant clams and various species of fish.

The city government will make some facilities like a pier for boats for an easy access to the shoal. for sure, aqua and marine activities will come along so that it will be come one of best tourist spot of the city and of the province.

Highland Fresh Dairy Products of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental

15 Sep 2017

I am so thankful that I made the cut to be part of the City Tourism Office of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental's Media Tour Day. We visited about four tourism sites that the city are proud of. I'll share to you  each site in different parts so that I won't flood a single article. Our first stop: Highland Fresh Dairy Products Factory.

When I first came here in Cagayan de Oro, my GF then (my wife now), let me tried Highland Fresh Dairy Products' Fresh Milk. We bought in the grocery half liter of each flavor: melon (aka cantaloupe) and chocolate. Love at first drink!!! The next day, as we strolled around the neighborhood, we came across a store that sells Highland Fresh Dairy Products' milk bar, the frozen version of the fresh milk. Since then, we buy milk bars to beat the (summer) heat.

Going back to present time, I am so amazed that the tour's first stop is the Highland Fresh Dairy Products' Factory, just like a kid on a school field trip.

This factory not only produces (flavored) fresh milk and milk bars, they also produce: yogurts, Gouda Cheese, and pure butter. Some variants of cheese like our beloved "kesong puti" and mozzarella cheese are made upon request or per order basis to guarantee freshness of the product.

Their milk comes from different dairy farms and cooperatives in region ten namely: Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental. Following the strict standards of the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Health, process around  4,000 litters of milk per month and being sold in different groceries and pasalubong centers in the region and as well as in different national food exhibits and expos.

Here in Cagayan de Oro, they have a store and office located at Rizal-Hayes Streets (near Lourdes College). Visit their website at http://www.highlandfreshdairy.com/ to know more about them.
